BP304: What We Wish We Had Known: Becoming an IBM Connections Administrator

This is my presentation with Paul Mooney on Connections administration.  In it we attempted to cover all the key things about Connections administration we think you need to get started.  I realise it’s a very heavily graphics based presentation and I will be uploading some speaker notes to go with it next week hopefully.

  1. Good thoughts. Wish they were 1) better explained to management at time of sales i.e. Connections is a beast which requires Full Time Admin for care and feeding and upgrade, as well as because of the complexity of IHS, Cognos, Files (now CCM), Database, etc… Too many sales people not stressing this as part of the sales process 2) not necessary as many of these things could be better handled as part of installation time decision point (why can’t there be an install time decision for IHS so that it gets integrated 3) upgrades need to be made easier, as it stands it is basically a new server build up for each major upgrade (yearly) and that along with CR updates is time consuming if it is not a primarily dedicated Administrator.
